ACL Bridge Rehabilitation Program

Bridging the Gap for Athletes Returning to Sport

what is a bridge program?

Our bridge program is designed to help athletes transition from formal physical therapy to safe return to sport (RTS) participation. It addresses the need for young athletes who have a strong athletic self-identity and a desire to return to their sport, but may not be physically or mentally ready. By bridging this gap, the program aims to prevent re-injury and ensure optimal performance.

Components of the Bridge Program:

Physical Conditioning:

  • Attendance at least 2 times per week
  • Tailored strength training program designed for the specific needs of the athlete
  • Functional movements to improve neuromuscular control
  • Speed, agility, and conditioning exercises targeting the specific energy systems required by the sport
  • Expert coaching and encouragement to address the mental aspect of returning to play
  • Competitive environment with drills designed for individual or small group competition

Assessment:

  • Evaluate the athlete’s current level of physical and mental function
  • Comprehensive review of previous physical therapy and surgical intervention, including graft choice and surgeon’s protocol
  • Functional assessment of movement
  • Mental assessment of readiness to return

Return-to-Sport Test:

  • Completion of a standardized return-to-sport test
  • Reassess the mental readiness to return

Schedule:

  • Mon and Wed, 8 week program
  • Time: 3:30-5:00

How do I know my athlete is ready to play again?

The decision to RTS should be based on:

  • Adequate healing of graft, 9-12 months
  • Successful completion of RTS testing
  • Mental readiness testing
  • Collaboration between family, athlete, and doctor

We will provide the athlete, family, and physician with the assessment data to facilitate appropriate decisions on returning to sport.

I can confidently say that Mike Klobucher is one of the best physical therapists I have ever worked with. He is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and attentive to his patients’ needs. He takes the time to listen to his patients and works with them to develop a personalized treatment plan that is both effective and manageable. His positive attitude and encouragement are infectious, and he creates a comfortable and welcoming environment that makes even the most challenging sessions enjoyable. I highly recommend Mike Klobucher.

I drive from Hudsonville to Holland to see Chris at i’move because I receive his full attention for my entire visit. So many clinics now are juggling 2 or 3 patients at a time. That is why I highly recommend Chris and i’move. After just a few visits my shoulder pain and mobility have improved significantly.
